Space Colony Outer Walls Made of Bacteria to Produce Oxygen

Author: Lance Winslow

Is it possible to create a space colony in which the outer walls of the buildings are covered with special bacteria between two outer sheets of Carbon NanoTubes? Let me explain the idea to you. We genetically modify and create bacteria, which is spread onto the colony buildings then a another layer of Carbon tubes is placed over the live bacteria. The Space Colony's Outer Walls would have enclosed Bacteria to Produce your needed Oxygen Supplies.

This bacteria will eat either moon dust or carbon dioxide on the surface of Mars. The bacteria will produce oxygen after it eats the CO2. The oxygen will be collected and forced into the space module or colony to provide oxygen for the human inhabitants. The bacteria can also be put into giant bacteria colonies encased in something like giant solar cell panels and this could provide all the Oxygen needed to the space colony.

Too bad about the budget cuts for the NASA Astrobiology Group, as this would have been a perfect project for them indeed. How big much moon dust would need to be put between the walls for the bacteria? Well that depends on how much oxygen you with to produce with your genetically modified bacteria, as well as if you decide to use extra layers of moon dust to protect the colony against Solar Flares of sun radiation. Consider all this in 2006.
