YOU are "THE KEY" to YOUR OWN SUCCESS

Author: Don Monteith

The "BUCK" STOPS ON YOUR DESK. You can OWN the business or be an employee working for someone else, it makes very little difference, the decisions are in your corner. Don't look around for a scapegoat because they are all gone and you are "IT". YOUR neck is on the line.

Reality says, you are the BOSS regardless of where your paycheck comes from. Maybe you don't see it that way, but YOUR success is connected directly to "who you are" and what you are willing to invest in your job.

If you are an 8 to 5 person then I would not recommend a business ownership for you. YOU are NOT an entrepreneur headed to make millionaire status. It takes NIGHT meetings to rub shoulders with the "power-base" in your marketplace.

Even long hours have NO guarantees connected. Give all you've got and still 9 out of 10 firms FAIL to be successful. Not much encouragement to start your own business. It takes lots of time, money and skill to "make it" as a business owner.

Remember all the HYPE about the dot.com era. Money was flowing into their coffers like water runs off a duck, an unending stream of MORE money, the get RICH suddenly became POOR after few of the dot.coms discovered a niche to make a profit.

Being in business is wonderful if you have something valuable to bring into the marketplace. Most products eventually are a "dime-a-dozen" which kills many small businesses. BIG "boys" show up with competitive pricing that often are less than the small player pays to his wholesaler.

Be sure that YOUR product or service cannot be easily duplicated by someone else. Otherwise, somebody will "eat-your-lunch" and force you into a losing situation. Many of the big competitors play "hardball" with their deep pockets and you don't have a prayer to challenge them.

Something to think about BEFORE you invest your money. Ask the right questions and know the answers before you put your money at risk, especially if you have to borrow it from your family or if you are thinking about asking the bank for a loan.

ACTION TIP: Research is your 1st step. Ask for answers. Seek out competitors in other cities, states. Go visit. Call on the phone. Get on the Internet and search for information. Set up your own MasterMind Group, Mentor team. Begin part-time, at night or on the weekend. Keep your day job until you are sure this is RIGHT for YOU and that you have the SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE required.
