Confidence At Your Fingertips

Author: Helen Miller

This article will show you how to be confident at will using the Neuro-Linguistic-Programming Anchoring technique. We all perform better when meeting new people, complaining about poor service and in interview situations when we are well prepared and confident. This is an easy self-help exercise you can learn that will help you feel much more confident. I suggest you read it all before you try it out.

a.. Pick any one time when you felt confident. It could be a time with friends, your partner, family, at school, at work, whenever. This does not have to be a perfect moment. It can just be one brief moment in time when you felt confident. Take your time, close your eyes, and remember it in detail.

b.. Now choose any movement you can do when people are around you that won't embarrass you. For example, I touch my left thumb to my little finger.

c.. Go back to the good memory again. Replay it and as you feel the confidence strongly do the movement.

d.. Give yourself plenty of time and repeat this a few times.

e.. To see if it is beginning to work try doing the movement and notice what happens. At this point, some people notice the confident feeling comes to them, others need more practice.

f.. Repeat by replaying the good memory in your head and then doing the movement. Then try the movement and see if the confident feeling comes.

g.. Enjoy being able to control how you feel and the positive effect it has on your life!

Like everything else, this technique needs practice to become powerful. Many people practice for a couple of minutes each day and are good at it by the end of the week.

You can use this confidence anchor whenever you need to and the more you use it the better it gets. You do not have to wait until you feel worried. As a candidate you can bring your confident feeling back when applying for the job, travelling to the interview, when you walk into your interview, and at any time in it.

Some people are very good at visualising. If you enjoy visualising, and you find it easy, you can choose an image that sums up the feeling for you and use this to replace the movement mentioned from Step 2 onwards. Follow the recipe above but replace the movement with the visualisation. This variation does not suit everyone and I offer it as an option so you can tailor this technique to your needs.

If you would like to learn more about how I use this technique to help people improve their career you can contact me at Helen@crossroadslifecoaching.co.uk or read any book about Neuro-Linguistic-Programming, often shortened to NLP. http://www.crossroadslifecoaching.co.uk/jobsatisfaction.htm
