A Stand-Out R??sum?? That Won't Keep the Employers Away

Author: Neoli Lancel Marcos

Online job applications are making things easier for job hunters. Goodbye to tedious searching in newspaper classifieds, circling and cutting this and that ad. Now, you just upload your r'sum', at the click of the mouse. But when you think about the fact that hundreds of other hopeful job seekers are also taking advantage of the Internet, you can't help but worry how your r'sum' is doing out there.

Make your r'sum' stand out then! When you apply for a job, you are basically marketing yourself, so you would want your r'sum' to present you in your best light. This doesn't mean that you should pad or embellish your r'sum' with untrue details or non-existent achievements just to make it stand out. Companies do not appreciate liars. What you need is to keep your r'sum' as short and simple as possible. Employers sift through dozens of r'sum's everyday; they want to be able to see at a glance the important facts about you.

Of course, pay attention to spelling and punctuation. The tiniest typographical can be held against you. If at the start they see that you don't bother with the details of your r'sum', they'd assume you won't with the details of your work either.

Also, stay away from too-stylish outlines for your r'sum'. If it's a creative job you're applying for, then it's all right, but it's still best to stick to something professional and not garish.

Finally, don't send the same generic r'sum' to every company. A r'sum' tailored according to the requirements of the specific job you're applying for will get you more chances of nailing that interview.
