What does the Prospective Employer Want ? Get That Job !

Author: Shaun Stevens

How can you work towards getting that job or career you want and desire?

When you go fishing you take worms. This is what the fish want. You may like strawberry pie. This is not what the fish like.

In the same way ask what is that the employer you wish to have hired you wants and is looking for in job candidates.

Employers want to hire people who will make their businesses more successful. The most desirable employees have the specific skills, transferable career competencies, work values and personal qualities necessary to be successful in the employers' organization.

The more clearly you convey your skills as they relate to your job target, the greater your chance of landing that ideal job.

Employers seek employees with job-specific skills i.e. skills and technical abilities that relate specifically to a particular job. For example two examples of job specific are using specialized tools and equipment and using a custom designed software program.

Even then there is constant change in today's business and career world. Strong transformable career skills are the very keys to success in managing your career through change. The most influential skills and attitudes are the abilities to work well with people, plan and manage multiple tasks (multi tasking) while maintaining a positive attitude and showing enthusiasm.

Employers need workers who have transferable career competencies that are basic skills and attitudes that are important for all types of work. These skills will make you highly marketable because they are needed for a wide variety of jobs and can be transferred from one task, job or workplace to another. Examples of these skills include your planning, research, communication, human relations, interpersonal skills as well as critical thinking and management skills.

In every occupation that you wish to obtain 'that job' transferable competencies are as important as technical expertise and job specific skills.

You must be flexible in your career planning.

Changing technologies and a global economy are causing some careers to become obsolete or to vastly change.

Broaden your job options.

Prepare to qualify for two closely related job opening types that require related education, training and general capabilities. What are the transferable career competencies that you have to qualify for jobs and between career clusters?

A knowledgeable career counselor can help to identify those multilayer goals appropriate for your specific interests and abilities.

You should continually work and strive to develop your career flexibility and as well pursue lifelong ongoing learning and interests. Together with your friends, family and associates define and enlarge your personal career objectives and targets. Think about work, hobbies and volunteer experiences that you have enjoyed in the past.

What kind of work do you want to do and enjoy. Where would you like to do this kind of work? How much do you want to get paid for your work? What is the best career match for your unique skills m experiences, values and interests?

Preparation is not only desirable but essential in gettingthat job' both in terms of identifying the skills and attributes that the employers wants in order for you to have the skills both in terms of acquiring and presentation of those skills both necessary and essential in the prospective employer's mind .
