War on Mediocrity

Author: Lance Winslow

Have you ever asked yourself why mankind likes to kill his own species so much? Why do we have wars, if you stop to think about it; does it really make any sense? No, war obviously does not make any sense, but as one famous author put it; War is an activity that gives us purpose. But if war is truly needed we have a much bigger problem in the world than having complete control of our political whim and will. For instance we could declare war on other problems that plague the human race and join in a common cause. How about a war on mediocrity; sounds interesting enough; but how would this work?

We declare war on lackadaisical attitudes of just getting by, of being lazy and lethargic. Declare war on half ass efforts or inferior quality and service. Declare war on making excuses. War on refusing to take responsibility; a war on not doing your very best at everything you do. Sure we could have a war and kill each other, but really this does not help the forward progression of the species and it does not necessarily weed out the week in some natural selection process in a theory of evolution. Survival of the fittest has not a whole lot to do with who wins or loses, lives or dies in today's modern wars.

If we have a war on mediocrity we would make strong and productive humans out of all. Refusing to allow anyone to cheat, put forth half effort or pass of inferior quality or workmanship as acceptable. We would hold government workers accountable to the highest ethical standard and demand efficiency. We would demand that each human put forth some effort towards the civilization. Real conscientious effort, real performance and real progress would become the baseline. Those who go beyond would be given the praise of the norm and those who under performed would not be treated as equal until they reached satisfactory levels of progress or achievement. We would raise the bar of expectations and not allow slackers to get away with pretending to get the job done. No one could be allowed to hide behind the "we are all created equal" motif of political correctness. With this increased productivity we would be able to enjoy more free time to pursue happiness and the forward progress of the human race would be the most served.

Today we have a society, which just barely gets by, hardly tries at anything, cares about few things. Living day to day, just getting by, without goals or dreams; simply sucking in the stimuli of the nightly news, turning off their brain and living in a vegetative state. It is hard to say why they bother to exist; they stand for nothing, have surrendered their minds and are not too interested on doing much of anything really? What happened to everyone? Time to wake them all up and start a war on mediocrity; think on this.
