Choosing Rugs For Your New Home

Author: Encove

Whether you're moving into your first home, or climbing the property ladder, it's always exciting. One of the best things about moving house is deciding how you are going to furnish each room and where everything is going to go.

You generally have more space to play around with when you move house. Rugs and carpets are an essential addition to any house, as they can make your house really feel like a home. It can be expensive kitting out your new home, so you should think about what you really need. Make sure you buy rugs which are suitable to your lifestyle and type of house. The things you need to think about might include:

Usewill your new rug be in a place where lots of people are going to be walking over it every day, or will it be in a room that doesn't get used much?

Durabilitydo you want this rug to last a long time or will you be happy to replace it in a few years?

Carehow easy will the rug be to clean if it gets spills on it? Can you wet it to remove a stain or must it be dry-cleaned?

Costbuying a house is expensive, so you may only have a limited budget left for furniture and accessories

Children and petswill you mind if the rug gets damaged, for example, if the cat scratches it or a child drops something on it?

Sizegetting the right size rug is important, as it can look out of place if it is too small for the room and vice versa.

D'cormake sure the rug you buy goes with the colour scheme in the room. If you have a lot of patterned furniture in the room, it's a good idea to get a plain rug. Similarly, if you have no patterns, why not make the rug a focal point with a bold design?
